OUR BIG TRIP
MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA

TOP END - Page 2
29 July 2007, Sunday
Today was "Beer Can Regatta" Day and at the same time we could enjoy the Mindil Beach Market which was on at the same
time from 10 am to 9 pm - a long day. At arrival, we were a little disappointed seeing only a few boats on display. When we
participated in the 3rd Cardboard-Boat Regatta in Port Huron (Michigan) we had lots of boats and it was great fun. During the
day the tug of war and thong throwing events gained more spectators in comparison to the few boat events. Anyway, the day
itself was long but at the end was good seeing the efforts the people put into their boats and how nicely they floated
compared to our creation during the Cardboard-Boat Regatta in the US of A. The food at the market is also very nice if you
like asian food or burgers. Also the art and craft stalls are quite nice, but we can not buy anything anyway due to our space
limitations. At the end we did buy some stuff, but only 3 CD's from a band performing at the market - absolutely fantastic guys
- eMDee !!! Mark Hoffmann playing the didgeridoo the way you never heard it before and Lukas Bendel on the drums. The
best way to describe the music is that Techno and Didgeridoo have crossed over into each other. Quite interesting stuff! We
posted below some videotape we took and one song from the CD's we bought. Those guys should come to Melbourne and
play in the clubs, they would be a great addition to the scene. Being happy at the end of the day with the fantastic music and
sunset at Mindil Beach, we called the day a success. Pictures, video and music below and on the next pages.

Here we go - Jim Beam cans - isn't it called Beer Can
Regatta? On top the Bundaberg Polar Bear?
The Pirates of the Canofbeerland - Great name for the
crew and the first 3 important steps to create a Beer
Can Regatta Boat - they actually won the Battle of Mindil
at the end when they all fight for the treasure and also
destroy their boats and try to sink them.
1. Grab a beer from the fridge - D-180 days
2. Consume contents of Can - D-180 days
3. Repeat step 1 & 2 over and over again - 2714 times !!!
We had a similar display at our cardboard boat regatta
Show & Shine - great guys !!! On the left, the front of the
boat.
Some other Pirates which captured most of the
spectators - the art and craft work of this boat was
incredible - they also won the first race.
I think they got it wrong - Iced Coffe Regatta? Well I
guess they sponsored the boat and also some of the
events.
The VB team - but not from
Melbourne.
The two entries in the kids race and soft drink boat builders. The flotation
should be coming from the cans and not the board between the cans?!?
Anyway that was the winner of the kids event thanks to the fins - see later
The other shark addition to the race.
Great addition to the boat - a shark on top of it.
The Pirates looked very good when they first entered
the water and tried their boat.
The paddle boat - also a great idea. They won the open
water race, because the pirates did not get a good start.
