OUR BIG TRIP

MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA
Preparations for the Big Trip are very important and also getting them all done in time. Well maybe we did
something wrong, we are struggling with getting all stuff done on time. At the end of the day we have 5 month and a
route which takes us around Australia and we will take it day by day.

Last week the road between Cameron Corner and Merty Merty was still closed. Now it is open again, that just shows
what we have to calculate into our schedule - well we won't. Road closed means either waiting or changing route.

Soon we will have the first photos up and running and you will be able to enjoy our trip, but from the sofa point of
view, instead of us being right in the middle of it.

Our Jeep is still at USA 4x4 getting the last few things done. Our trip would not happen if it wasn't for Tony & Travis
at USA 4x4 - THANKS GUYS !!!!

Almost forgot one particular group of people to thank - GM Holden Ltd. - we have enjoyed working at GMH over the
last years and are proud to be a member of the "VE crew". An experience of a lifetime and hard to leave, however it
had to get to this day and now we are off. THANKS GUYS !!!!

Here are the last photos checking out the car at USA 4x4 and the Auto Electrician. Travis and Tony are the heroes
who got the car sorted out on time.
Dave checking the new alternator. 136 amps
instead of 90 to make sure the extra stuff on the car
actually works and has enough power
Travis at USA4x4 giving me a used CLuster to check
out the electrical fault at home, later during the day
USA 4x4 shop, Travis showing me how to remove
the cluster.
My car needed a few adjustments and service before going on the trip and I also thought a new and more powerful
alternator would be a good idea, however that showed to maybe cause a few problems. On Saturday before the trip
the voltmeter suddenly showed 19 V instead of 14 V and those pictures above are the result of it. At the end it went
away because I created a spark at the regulator which shutdown the vehicle and blew a fuse.

Well at the end the vehicle is on the road with a new steering gear because this also gave up on the weekend before
leaving. This just shows again how important trip preparations are and they should not be left to the last minute.

Well and the above also delayed my appointment at the Second Avenue Hair Studio to get rid of my pony tail. 5
month around Oz and long hair are not a good idea. Here are the main pictures and a GIF animation of how it all
came together - thanks Sam at Second Avenue for being patient and giving me the right look for the trip.
Now go the WHERE THE HELL? page and see where we are at the moment...
Hold your mouse on the pony tail and
