OUR BIG TRIP
MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA

TOP END - Page 1
27 July 2007, Friday
Today we drove from Edith Falls to Darwin, we changed our itinerary due to the "Beer Can Regatta" on Sunday in Darwin.
First we wanted to stay for 4 nights, then 5 - well at the end we decided to stay for one week and relax a little in the biggest
town we have seen so far and the biggest until we get to Perth. Some people suggested the Lee Point Village Resort to us,
because it is outside of the city and the airport surroundings. However at the last minute somebody in Edith Falls told us to
go to the Shady Glen, so we went to Shady Glen first. It is beautiful when you start talking to the girl behind the counter and
she first looks at you and the car outside and turns around and tells you after a 2 sec delay that they have no powered sites
available - what a bi&%$# !!! What did I cut my hair for? That would have even been worse. Well, off we went to Lee Point 15
km North of the City. They were nicer and actually gave us a powered site for one week. Most of the people here are
long-timers in the park and stay here for a few month and work in Darwin. Lots of work available in Darwin during the Dry
Season. The weather is quite nice - about 30-32 deg C during the day and about 18-22 deg C at night - just right.
28 July 2007, Saturday
Today we decided to just have a look at the City and get ourselves settled in the Territory way of life - which is mainly relaxing
and not doing too much. So after a while in the city we went to the Museum which is free entry. Quite ok for a free entry ticket
with Aboriginal art (which we skipped - sorry but we are not really into that - have seen too much of it already in our 6 years in
Oz), animal history of Earth and the NT and a display of sweetwater, a huge saltwater crocodile which died during its capture.
The Cyclone Tracey Gallery was also interesting. At the end, we also decided that we had to test the Deckchair Cinema and
tonight was the only interesting movie on - NOISE - an Australian movie which sounded OK. The movie itself was not bad, but
sometimes not very organised, leaving a few loose ends in the story and the end is a little disappointing - all together we give
it three stars. Pics below to show the story.

Sweetwater - 5.1 m saltwater crocodile -huge !!!
Nice colours - that happens if you combine polarising
filter in a window and on the camera lens.
Tracey you Bitch - what a fair comment - Tracey came
towards Darwin on the 24 Dec 1974 and destroyed most
of city - Happy Christmas it was - the devastation must
have been outrageous - that is what you can tell from
the pictures.
Australia showed that mates are here to help. People
from all over the country came to rebuild Darwin.
Good statement - must have been similar to New
Orleans, but much better organised help - as far as we
can tell from the stories pointed out here in the gallery.
The Deckchair Cinema at the Wharf - great atmosphere.
Having the sunset and
the atmosphere was
great - just the movie
lacked a little bit...
