GOING HOME - Page 2
29 October 2007, Monday
The first day in the Barossa Valley and what else than wine could be on the agenda. We like Peter Lehmann wines and
wanted to visit two wineries today - Peter Lehmann and the most famous Aussie wine maker - Penfolds. First we went to
Penfolds and had a look at their expensive wines. The Grange is supposedly the best Australian Red Wine - one bottle $525 -
bullshit!!!! For only $150 per person you can participate in a special wine tasting which includes Grange, but we decided to
leave it with just looking at the bottle. We did like the Pinot Noir and would come back to buy a couple of bottles - can only be
bought at the Cellar Door - so very good deal. After Penfolds we went to Peter Lehmann and had a nice tasting including
some lunch - otherwise the driving would have been a little difficult. The wine was so good that we actually bought 12 bottles
and shipped them to Barry - no place for carrying anymore - mate, leave the bottles alone - o.k.? After Peter Lehmann we
went back to the cottage and tasted some of the Heritage wines before watching a few movies and enjoy and relax in the
cottage. Today we did not take any pictures - no evidence of drunk people on this website - he he he.

The other thing you can do in the Barossa is driving around the Valley's and enjoy the scenery and walk a little in the
Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park. Well, that is what we did today. We drove towards the Sculpture Park and the Kaiserstuhl
Conservation Park first and had a little walk around. The walk was nothing to really mention about, we saw a few roos and
birds, but no Echidna - really the only famous Aussie animal we haven't seen yet on our trip. The area around the Barossa
and Eden Valley is full of wildflowers and besides the road we found some really nice spots for pictures (see below - Milka
Cows - he he he). We had lunch in a German restaurant and bakery in Lyndoch - the food was good, but I really do not
understand how Kransky is a German sausage? Anyway, we also took some nice German Cheesecake home for later.
Afterwards we went to the Lavender Farm around the corner from Lyndoch. The smell around the area and on the Lavender
Walk is quite nice, the Superb Blue Fairy Wren and Bearded Dragons are nice to see, but most of the Lavender was not in
blossom and therefore it wasn't really what we expected. Home we went and enjoyed the last night in a cottage on our trip
around Oz. Below are the pictures from today.

The Sculpture Park at the Mengler Hill Lookout - this was the only interesting sculpture.

The weather could have been better, but the view is still nice along the roads and wineries.

No idea what birds those are and one had a feather in the beak - maybe building a nest.

Roos around the Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park.

Nice views in the hills - great place with the purple flowers around.
