Continuation of the canoeing story...
24 July 2007, Tuesday
Today we slowly packed up and went to Edith Falls, thinking that the Camping is in a National Park and that means leaving
normally at midday. So we arrived at just after noon to book in at the Kiosk. Wait a second, one more thought before that, all
4WD magazines have always reported this area as a secret and cheap place to stay. Well, that might have been a few years
ago when I was hear in 1991. The place now has 51 camping spots and when we arrived we had a line of 4 caravans in front
of us. Mary went to book us in and when the sign was put in front of my immediate front-runner - No Caravan Sites available -
I got a little worried ??? Mary also got a shock when the lady in the kiosk said to the women in front of her that she just got
the last spot for a camper trailer - great !!! Well they are at least flexible and gave us a double tent site to put up our trailer and
car and it was a perfect fit !!! Actually the nicest camping spot so far with a grassy site behind us, just need to imagine that
you are alone at a secret spot. After settling in and starting to sweat during the heat of the day setting up the trailer, I decided
that I needed some cool water around me. Off to the plunge pool at the camping - which is just a 200 m walk from the
camping. Full of people, but because the waterfall is about 150 m away from the entrance only a few people swim over to the
falls. I also decided to wear my goggles and fins to watch if I can spot turtles or even freshwater crocodiles. After swimming
the first time over and back again I swam around the entrance when a women started to shout at somebody - it was her blind
husband swimming back from the falls in the wrong direction - well he was blind after all ! I saw him before at the falls and
even spoke to him from a distance. I asked her if I should get him and swam out and guided him back to the entrance. After
that back again to the Falls for a third time to get a few more photos (Arrow below shows me - if you can spot it). After all a
nice day after a slow start and scare about the place - by the way the burgers at the Kiosk are huge - only order the plain one,
not the Lot - too much. Here are just a few pictures to prove. Tomorrow we are planning to walk to the Upper Pool for another
swim.
