OUR BIG TRIP

MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA
ALICE SPRINGS - KATHERINE - Page 1

20 July 2007, Friday

Today we drove from Alice Springs to the Devil's Marbles and it is getting warmer - can you imagine that? Somewhat Bush
Camping, but with lots of people around. After setting up camp we had a look around the Marbles and they are fantastic.
Somebody must have put them here, Aboriginals think these are the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent and the signs explain that
it was erosion, well, your call to make the decision. We finally found the most impressive two Marbles and stationed
ourselves here for the sunset. This area was not as full as the camping spot would actually suggest, good that not everybody
knows where those two famous eggs are - he he he. Here are some pictures including the change of colour for the two eggs.
This is where the memories come back from my first trip around Oz with Frank in 1991. We did not particularly look for this
site at the time, but stopped and it was pretty amazing. From now on we follow in our tracks up towards Darwin.
Our campsite, we were just to lazy to collect firewood
and we wanted to head off early in the morning again
which meant an early night anyway.
Right behind us, the first Marble being balanced
somehow for Millions of years.
That Marble split into half very neatly. On the right a
couple of more pictures from the short walk around the
Centre of the Devils Marbles.
Ok here are the funny pictures you just have to do. Did
them also 16.5 years ago and nothing has changed.
Makes you feel so unimportant compared to the
changing times in those environments.
The scenery at sunset is just marvellous, gotta see it to believe it. Even Mary reckons that this is the best place we
have been to so far. Maybe the weather also helps, because it is warm and having no power does not matter that much
anymore. Some panorama shots below.
