Continuation of drive to Litchfield NP...
7 August 2007, Tuesday
Today we wanted to explore the bitumen part of the park and see what it has to offer. In 1991 we came with a Kingswood
Station Wagon and got bogged in the then, gravel road. The Ranger pulled us out who was just waiting for the people at this
spot. Now, the entire road is bitumen and tourists are just everywhere. First, we went to Tolmer Falls which is quite boring -
wheelchair access path and a view of an almost dry Tolmer Fall - no further access due to a couple of endangered bat
species living in the area and they are not to be disturbed. From Tolmer Falls we went to the Lost City - the first 4WD only
access road - but from the bitumen road path we took today - Sandstone formations which look like ruins from a Lost City.
From there, we went to Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole. Florence Falls was packed and we did not go down to the Falls,
so we decided to head on to Buley Rockhole for a dip in the water. The spot is fantastic, but again too many people. Also, we
did get our own little pool for a while and that was not bad. From here we drove to Batchelor to get some meat for the BBQ
tonight - cooking again on the fire - backed potato and meat - can't get better than this! After Batchelor, we went to the official
site for the Termite Mounds and that was not as impressive as the one located near the North Entrance to the NP. The BBQ at
night was fantastic.... Lamb cutlets and backed potato... yummy.

Flat and wide...
Broken up - pretty sure some idiots trying to see how
hard they are...
The Finnis River - nice place, but crocs present - at
least that is what the books and Rangers tell you.
Camping at Wangi Falls - Cold showers but nice spot
with fireplace - that wood was carried on the rear wheel
- TJ's are not big, so need to improvise.
Some panoramic shots from the area of the Magnetic Termite Mounds.

Tolmer Falls - the caves at the bottom of the falls are the habitat of two rare bat species and therefore nobody is allowed down in the pool or closer to the falls than the lookout - below panoramic shot of the area.
