OUR BIG TRIP
MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA

TOP END - Page 5
30 July 2007, Monday
Today we had to do it - yes, we went to a Crocodile Farm - well we are in the Top End and this means Crocodiles. We went to
th Crocodylus Farm closer to Darwin instead of the Darwin Crocodile Farm - it just sounded more interesting on the flyer and
they have more animals than just crocs. We also booked our car in for window tinting - yes you are reading correctly. The
heat and sunshine needs to stay away from the fridge and us, so we decided to tint the windows. Will be done on Thursday.
At the end of the day we also tried to feed some fish at Aquascene in Darwin. Too many people, but otherwise not bad. Here
are the pics showing the events of the day unfolding.
Salty loosing one tooth - they re-generate, so no
problem.
Large croc charging at the guide - they just get them
tired to work in the enclosure. They get tired quite
quickly in the Dry Season - too cold (30 deg C?)
We are actually going to the Adelaide River Crossing
Jumping Crocodiles tomorrow - but we already saw
some jumpers today during the feeding.
Chicken and it has to be fresh, otherwise they spit it out
again.
The large males are in breeding stations - after all the
farm is breeding crocs for their meat and skin - sorry
but that is the way it is...
Fascinating animals they are...
See the two holes in front of the nose - the function of
those is to give space for the lower jaw front teeth (see
the white spot on the top jaw?) - The noise when they
close their jaw for food is frightening.
Freshy - Freshwater Crocodile - not dangerous to man,
but can bite if cornered. I already swam with them, but
have not seen them - feels better when you swim
anyway to not see crocs.
American Alligator - I really can not repeat the
description they gave of them. They compared them to
Americans in general - not fair but was funny - he he he
The Attack Lagoon - nice jump mate... they can reach
about 3/4 of their body length out of the water.
Holdeing a baby croc at the end - yes, it is touristy but
quite unusual. Mary enjoyed this part.
He wiggled before I got him, I stepped back first and
everybody thought - what a wimp... Anyway, nice holding
it and looking at it.
I know not Aussie - but Ostrichs look cool, below in the blind and horror version - The Ostrich Attack - just kidding.

Why did we pout this guy? Well that really represents the lifestyle in Darwin - relax, do not do anything - wait until tomorrow or just don't do it.
