OUR BIG TRIP
MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA

INNAMINCKA - BIRDSVILLE - Page 2
1 July 2007, Sunday
Today we had a look around Birdsville which obviously includes the Birdsville Hotel and the Working Museum. The Big Red
is reserved for tomorrow when the shock absorber is re-attached to the vehicle. Here is the proof.
Birdsville Hotel during the day and at sunset. Established 1884 and rebuild in 1979 after a fire. Big place and it was full
that night for the BBQ Dinner. Good Tucker, mate.
The inside of the Hotel Main Bar. On the right (red T-Shirt) is Craig our neighbour from the caravan park. They (Craig &
Tracy) are crossing the Simpson tomorrow - we had a few nice chats about Jeep's and Toyota's - as usual. Hope they
make it with their tray-top trailer.
The Birdsville Working Museum which is a collection of
collectables from John Menzies (not the CEO of the
Theme Parks in QLD). He is giving a 50 min. tour of the
place and explains the main items he has collected. Old
machinery still working from the 1890's to today. Great
place to visit and very entertaining show. The Holden on
the left was made in 1946/7 just before the first car was
made as a kids toy - well that is what John said.
The old Royal Hotel and afterwards Hospital which is in the middle of the town. The Birdsville bakery had a nice sign and we thought it
was very appropriate to get a photograph of us in front of it after what we had been through so far.
This is more for our MJOC friends - a WJ with some custom work. Another neighbour from the caravan park, he did
his own rear bar work and also constructed his own snorkel for the WJ. He also has an extension piece which can be
fitted in, to raise it higher up when needed. Some nice guys which are from Brisbane. I gave him one of our cards
and told him to contact any of us when near Melbourne anytime in the future. That should give our guys who own a
WJ some ideas.
