Continuation of Port Lincoln NP story...

27 October 2007, Saturday

Today we wanted to drive up the East coast of the Eyre Peninsula and stay somewhere around Cowell. The weather in the
morning was not very friendly, so we packed up quickly to make sure that it was dry. We just made it and shortly after we left
Port Lincoln it started raining. The wind was very strong today and the whole weather situation was not really working with
our plan. We headed up the coast and not much was enjoyable. The views were not very nice and even the places itself were
not really that good. Due to that we decided to drive on and see how far we get. Coming through Whyalla we remembered the
comments from Rodge - and onwards to Port Augusta it was. We had some lunch in Port Augusta, but that was all again. The
wind was so strong that the air was filled with dust all over the place and sometimes it looked like you would drive into a
foggy area. Not staying in Port Augusta also meant that we needed to make a decision to either drive along the coast or go
off towards the Southern Flinders Ranges - well we choose Peterborough to have a look at Steamtown - the train museum.
This meant to climb 500 m up into the Southern Flinders Ranges from Port Augusta during a hot northerly wind - well that
was really the first time I needed to turn on the heater to ease the cooling temp on the car. Still outrun a Grand Cherokee
behind me - he he he. The drive to Peterborough was nice through the hills and we finally arrived in the late afternoon. The
wind was still so strong that we first tried a cabin at the caravam park but ended up in a motel in town due to availability. This
was o.k., we did not wanted to stay in the trailer during those winds and possible storms overnight. Today, no pictures taken,
mainly due to the weather. From now on we call the rest of the journey - GOING HOME. Only one and a half weeks left.
