OUR BIG TRIP

MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA
COOBER PEDY  - ALICE SPRINGS - Page 1

9 July 2007, Monday

Today we went up to Cadney Homestead to park the trailer and drive to the Painted Desert. We also decided to experience
the cold in the tent we brought, just for one night without power. Well the ground was very hard as you can see from the
pegs in the below picture and setting it up the first time ever was also not as easy as we thought. So we decided to minimise
the use of the tent as much as we can. The drive into th Painted Desert was quite corrugated again, but you are entering an
awesome area of the desert - the picture just can not tell the story and colours. Here are the pictures...

On the went to Kings Canyon. We decided to stay in the Kings Creek Station Caravan spot rather than the resort. At the end it
actually showed that it was more expensive and maybe not as nice as the resort. The Station is fully prepared for tourists and
tours - Helis flying from 7 am to 7 pm, Camel rides, Roos, Quad Bike rides, etc. The biggest advantage of the spot is that you
have your own fireplace and so we collected some firewood and did our fire - which almost feels like bush camping, but not
quite the same. Here are the only pics of the day.
Our tent - well the sleeping was ok but I guess the
trailer is put up almost in the same time. So it will stay
for those nights we just take the car to the destination.
The castle at the Painted Desert.
Awesome view at the lookout - also see the panorama
picture at the end.
Looks even better with us in the picture - he he he
The views
from the
lookout and
from the
hilltop walk
are just
fantastic -
again the
pictures can't
real;ly tell the
story. It was
worthwhile
doing the 90
km's gravel
and
corrugations
to see this.
Below a try
with a
panorama
program
showing the
360 deg.
view of the
lookout.
