OUR BIG TRIP
MARY & OLI GOING AROUND AUSTRALIA

BIRDSVILLE - COOBER PEDY - Page 6
7 July 2007, Saturday
This morning we just relaxed and tried to cure our cold, now we both have it and should buy shares in the tissue industry,
because we use a lot...
In the afternoon we went to the Moon Plain and Breakaways close to Coober Pedy. The Moon Plain is an area which looks
like after a Nuclear Bomb - well according to the directors of Mad Max 3 and Ground Zero which both used this area to film
portions of the film. Nothing besides sand and stones, no vegetation, not even at floodways besides slight grass which is
struggling to survive. The Breakaways are beautiful, however it would have been better if the sun would have been out. Here
are the photos.
The Oodnadatta Roahdouse and the Underground
Bookshop in Coober Pedy put signs along all of the
Outback Tracks - read:"OK theres not a lot to see but
photo it anyway".
Nothing but stones and red sand - gibber plain at its
best. No wonder that Mad Max 3 and Ground Zero have
been filmed here.
And that after about 40 km's at the end of the Moon Plain. 40 km/s of nothing, well I said that before didn't I? So we drove
back to the Dog Fence to go along the Fence to the Breakaways.
The mounds are very
tempting to drive up on
and try, not even a penalty
applies, however Tread
Lightly !!! But it is tempting.
On the left: Called the Castle or the Aboriginal people called it the two Dogs or Dingos - one white and one yellow one. Be,low more impressions, even the sunshine came out for a few minutes to give some more colours.
